What is
Marxism 2009?
We are faced with the worst
economic crisis most of us have seen. The
politicians who are supposed to represent us have been exposed as greedy, moneygrabbing parasites.
| Marxism, which I speak at every year, is one of the most important universities of the labour movement. It brings together a vast range of people. It is an honour to be invited, and I’m very much looking forward to the discussion and debate that will go on. Tony Benn |
And fascists like the BNP are on the rise, attempting to benefit from people’s misery on the back of racist lies.
At the same time we see workers and students occupying their factories and universities, black and white uniting to fight back, and the potential for resistance growing.
Never has it been more important for us to come together to discuss the challenges and possibilities we face. Marxism will be the greatest opportunity for thousands of us to have these debates and to forge the kind of unity we desperately need.
Outside the meetings and debates there will be opportunities to celebrate the cultural side of resistance with music, film, art and theatre.
We hope you will enjoy the event, and that we will all come away ready to face the challenges ahead.
