Cultures of Resistance presents an LMHR gig
Back once again, the ever popular Cultures of Resistance gig will bring Marxism to a close. This year CoR will host Love Music Hate Racism for a very special night with headliners jazz/reggae/ska supergroup Jazz Jamaica - described by the Guardian as Britain's Buena Vista Social Club. Support acts will include Maroon Town, Lowkey and Underground.

Occupations by Trevor Griffiths
This read-through performance by a group of Sheffield-based actors will revive Griffiths's work, written in 1968 and based around Antonio Gramsci and the Fiat occupations in Italy in the 1920s.

Poetry for Palestine
Poet and broadcaster Michael Rosen is joined by actor Sam West, trade unionist and poet Zita Holbourne and Iraqi rapper Lowkey as they join forces to perform an evening of poetry for Palestine. This promises to be as popular as ever so arrive early to get your seat.

Left in Vision 4
The popular Left in Vision art exhibition returns for its
fourth year at Marxism, featuring work from established
figures such as May Ayres, David Garner, Red Saunders
and Chanie Rosenberg and outstanding newcomers
such as Steve Chivalry and Dale Pattenden.

The music of the Black Power movement
Martin Smith, author of John
Coltrane: Jazz, Racism and
Resistance, presents an evening of music, slides
and film footage on the music of the Black Power
movement. An audio-visual history of the politics and
music of an era.

The outdoor cinema will return (weather permitting) with
a host of short films and a night hosted by Reel News.

A night of stand-up comedy
Stand-up comedy is returning to
Marxism after an absence of several
years. Kate Smurthwaite will host an
evening of left wing comedy from
the likes of Joe Wells, Steve Parry, Pete Walsh, Tiernan
Douieb and the Perrier award winner Wil Hodgson.

An evening of folk music with Roy Bailey
Roy Bailey was described by Tony
Benn as “the greatest socialist folk
singer of his generation”. He has been playing around
the world for over 50 years and joins us at Marxism this
year to perform his music of dissent and hope.

I Got a Home in Barack
Writer of the award-winning Call
Mr Robeson, singer/performer
Tayo Aluko will perform his
new show, I Got a Home in Barack, a
musically illustrated talk exploring
events from African pre-slavery history to the symbolic
election of Barack Obama.
